Michael Kraehnke, CPA


Michael is a partner in the Department of Professional Practice (DPP) - Audit and Advisory. In this capacity, he is a U.S. GAAP and IFRS resource. He monitors the activities of the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) and other standard setters. Additionally, Michael consults with engagement teams on complex accounting and SEC matters, develops interpretive guidance for publication in KPMG's professional accounting literature, and designs and presents technical training through Webcasts and live conferences for internal and external audiences.

Michael has assisted in the development of numerous KPMG publications and articles. Michael is a frequent speaker at accounting update presentations for KPMG clients and other external organizations. He often presents on KPMG's IFRS Institute Webcasts and has been a panelist at a number of industry and professional organization conferences, including the Edison Electric Institute/American Gas Association Accounting Leadership Conference, American Accounting Association Northeast Region Annual Meeting, and AICPA Controllers Workshop East.

From 2008-2010, Michael was a practice fellow at the IASB in London, United Kingdom. During his tenure at the IASB, Michael was responsible for addressing a wide range of IFRS implementation issues and performing outreach activities on behalf of the IASB.

Michael also led various standard-setting projects including Rate-regulated Activities, Annual Improvements, Classification of Rights Issues and Limited Exemption from Comparative IFRS 7 Disclosures for First-time Adopters, and a number of IFRS Interpretations Committee ("IFRIC") issues.
